Punk is often socially engaged, but the nature of that engagement can vary. Индульгенция (Indulgencia) might step on the toes of many punks with “Феминистка” (Feminist, 2014). Their stance comes from values unusual in the genre, namely Christian ones – and that may be the punkest thing of all.
Explained in Панк-католицизм группы «Индульгенция», the punk Catholicism of the band Indulgencia (Nihilist.li, 2017).
The language used to address the feminist in the song isn’t exactly Christian. To start, she’s branded угорелая (oegarelaja), which loosely translates to “crazy”. She’s also такая тупая (so dumb), like this whole world (как весь этот мир), and такая кривая (so crooked, skewed, wrong), like everyone around (как все вокруг). Your life is now black and white (твоя жизнь теперь чёрно-белая), which rhymes with feministka oegarelaja.
It also rhymes with не пытайся подойти ко мне близко – don’t try to get close to me. She probably won’t.
In a studio session at Наше-ТВ (2020), Феминистка also comes up (starting at 7:47). Drummer Dima explains that there is no aggression in the song, but in general, мы не поддерживаем, we don’t support feminism or LGBT. However, that’s a очень большая тема, very big topic – not for that moment, and not for here either.
