Everybody hates somebody – but discrimination is illegal, and has a bad rep in times of inclusion. Here’s a solution, by Грязь or Gryaz: hate them all and in general, the whole species. Я ненавижу людей: I hate people – the self by default included.
To hate (ненавидеть) is a transitive verb – being hated does something to a person – and is therefore typically in the accusative case. But людей (people) is genitive (plural genitive) because, like it or not, people are living (animate) beings. This also applies to animals, but some people know how to solve that. In the competition for the title Most Iconic Opening Lines, this one is at least nominated: Я хочу утопить этот день, как топят бездомных котят, I want to drown this day like stray kittens are drowned.
Nothing much to see in the video on YouTube – but it has over 5 million views, and counting. The two clips below show, respectively, an alternative title that is not repeated or translated here, and a text version that is also a RIP tribute to Roma Anglichanin (see below).
Грязь is Denis Astapov (Денис Астапов), from Mahilyow or Mogilev, Belarus. Former member of John Doe and manager of ЛСП (LSP). See Грязь | In Person (Studio 21, 2020, 14 min).
Грязь (and John Doe) also included Roma Anglichanin (Рома Англичанин, 1988-2017), who can no longer hate anyone and, hopefully, is no longer hated by anyone either. See 24smi, Genius.com, and Several Stories About Roma Anglichanin (34mag, 2018).
