At the age of fourteen, after being orphaned early, Sergei Lobovikov (= Сергей Лобовиков, 1870-1941) was sent from a small village to the provincial town of Vyatka (now Kirov), of which he would later become an honorary citizen. The idea was to train him as a shopkeeper and a photographer. The rest is history best seen rather than told: sales were never his calling, photography very much was.
