Vuara – Less & Without (Меньше Слов & Без Людей)
Brace yourself for something that looks friendlier than it sounds: Vuara from Petrozavodsk or Петрозаводск (Karelia). Their own description (on Bandcamp) reads like a warning: “A clot of dark and chaotic sound straight from the belly of Karelian swamps, escaping from the throat with a cry of socio-political longing.”
Свобода шума: Freedom of Noise
Vuara is still young. Music videos are for later, and their repertoire is still limited. Just one album, but it weighs heavy enough for two: Свобода шума (Freedom of Noise, 2020). Here are two songs: one about less (words) and one about without (people). Even with the lyrics in front of you, understanding them is an art in itself – and today we’re focusing on that reading aspect.

Город без людей (City without People)
застряв мыслью в белом шуме,
я слышу шорох взоров стен
за ними шёпот темноты пустых квартир,
и вопль лабиринта
набухают сосуды его немой толпой остывшей
в скрежете цифр я слышу пульс
и ной твари живой
я во власти мёртвого, в бегстве
выложен путь меж потухших огней,
горевших в каждой груди
среди звуков прохожих
не ныл ещё стон о кончине
заполнял желудки домов,
чьи стены не выдадут ядовитых слов
я шёл свой путь с камнем в руке
до самого обрыва
увидев в пути миллионы голов разбитых
и лишь горсть камней брошенных –
ровно столько голов уцелело,
грохот стоит от стука камней,
тишина стоит от стука сердец
